What Is KTV in Vietnam? A First-Timer’s Guide

Understand the two service styles

Butterfly

The staff rotates between several rooms, so she is with your group for part of the session rather than all of it.

Booking

The same staff stays with you for the full session. Throughout these guides, capital-B Booking refers only to this staff arrangement, never a venue reservation.

Some venues offer both styles and others offer Booking only. The minimum staff tip applies to each staff selected. On Butterfly, most guests end up choosing two. See the cost definitions and venue examples.

Before you go

  • Reserve when timing matters A reservation is especially useful on weekends or at peak hours. Same-day requests remain subject to availability.
  • Bring enough cash Most venues are cash only; some take cards but add a surcharge of 5% or more, so bring cash to cover the estimate.
  • Know your arrangement Confirm whether the venue offers Butterfly, Booking, or both.
  • Plan around three hours Note when you choose staff because extra tips are commonly 500k per extra hour after the session.
  • Do not rely on English English is rarely spoken at these venues, so briefing the venue in advance can reduce confusion.

Inside the room and at the bill

At the start

The room charge is already running from the moment the first person sat down, so settle the order early. You will be asked what beer you want. Ask for large cans when available because small cans are poor value. Ask the waiter to leave only your drinks and the minimum fruit platter the venue requires. Snacks, vapes, and other items already on the table are not free.

During the session

Waiters will bring extra food and products to the table mid-session. Refuse anything you did not order as soon as it appears. If staff ask to order food, choose from the menu yourself or set a firm maximum. Open-ended food orders are one of the easiest ways for the final amount to exceed your plan.

At the end

The bill covers the room charge, consumables such as drinks, food, cigarettes, and vapes, plus VAT and the service charge. The manager (mami/papi), waiter, and female staff tips are normally separate. A venue may occasionally put the manager and waiter tip on the bill, so inspect it to avoid paying the same tip twice.

First-visit questions

When should I arrive?

Around 6:00–7:00 p.m. usually provides the widest selection, though this changes with the venue, day, and staff schedule.

Can I change staff if the fit is wrong?

Yes, but decide early. A later change may still require the full minimum tip. If it is clearly not a fit in the first ten minutes or so, ask immediately rather than waiting.

Can I visit alone?

Some venues accept solo guests. Others may expect a solo guest to select more than one staff, which changes the cost. And the room charge, manager and waiter tips, and required fruit platter do not change with headcount, so on your own they fall on one person — often roughly double the typical per-person total. Confirm the venue conditions before you reserve.

Can Saigon Nights Insider arrange a specific staff?

No. The service arranges standard venue reservations and provides venue-level information only. It does not arrange specific staff requests, outside meetings, sexual services, or illegal activity.
