The short answer
What a KTV total is made of
A KTV night bills you for the room charge, for consumables — drinks, food, cigarettes, vapes, and anything else the venue serves you — and for VAT and the service charge on top of both. Those four appear on the bill. Three tips are normally not on it: one for the manager (mami/papi), one for the waiter, and one for each female staff who sits with you. You hand those over separately.
In a group, everyone normally shares everything except the female staff tip. That tip is per staff, so each person covers the one who sits with them. The whole night is settled in cash.
The room charge starts the moment the first person enters the room, not when the group is complete, and it is often metered by the minute. Arriving early or waiting inside the room is already billable time.
All amounts below are in VND per person for three hours. 1m means VND 1,000,000 and 500k means VND 500,000.
Three-hour price examples by venue
Butterfly means the staff rotates between rooms, so she is with your group for part of the session. Booking means the same staff stays for the full session. Both name a staff arrangement, never a venue reservation.

* Venue cost is the room and consumables charge — the room charge, consumables, VAT, and service charge — plus the manager and waiter tips: everything the venue keeps except the female staff tip.
** Typical total adds the female staff minimum tip, two on Butterfly and one on Booking. BOSS on Butterfly is 3m–4m + 2 × 1m = 5m–6m. Each additional staff adds another minimum tip.
The figures assume a three-hour visit. Group size, drinks, food, extra staff, extensions, and the venue's current pricing can push the total above the table. A KTV night also has costs that do not change with headcount: the room charge, the manager tip (about 1m–1.5m), the waiter tip (about 300k–700k), and the required fruit platter. A group of three or more splits these several ways — which is what the per-person figures assume. Going alone, they all fall on you, so a solo visit typically runs about double the Typical total, or more.
Six ways to keep the bill under control
Ask for large beer cans
You will be asked what beer you want as soon as you sit down. Whatever brand you pick, ask for large cans, because small cans are poor value. Not every venue stocks the large size.
Clear the table at the start
Ask the waiter to leave only your drinks and the minimum fruit platter the venue requires, and to take the snacks, vapes, and anything else away. Items already on the table are not free. For a group of three or four, one fruit platter is usually enough.
Send back anything you did not order
Waiters will bring extra food and products to the table mid-session. If you did not order it, send it back on the spot. Anything you accept is billed as consumables, and disputing it once the bill arrives is far harder.
Set a budget before she orders food
If your staff asks to order food, either pick from the menu yourself or give her a firm maximum and let her choose within it. Leaving it open-ended is how an expensive seafood order ends up on your bill.
Watch the clock from the moment you choose
Note the time you select your staff. Once the three hours are up, an extra tip is expected, commonly 500k per extra hour. The room charge runs on a separate clock that started when the first person entered the room, and it is often metered by the minute.
Check the bill before handing over tips
The manager, waiter, and female staff tips are normally outside the bill. Occasionally, a venue puts the manager and waiter tip on the bill. Check each line before paying so you do not tip the same person twice. Most venues are cash only; some take cards but add a surcharge of 5% or more, so bring enough cash to cover the estimate.
